Water and Waste Specialist III
What is your job and what do you like most about it?
My title is Water and Waste Specialist III. I work at the La Crosse Service Center and have been at Dairyland for almost 31 years. What I enjoy most is the opportunity to work with so many different people across Dairyland, including colleagues in my department, at the power plants and at the Service Center. I’m grateful to work alongside such a talented and dedicated group.
What led you to work in this field?
I really enjoyed math and science in high school and thought that chemistry would be the best mix of those two subjects. I originally thought that I would be a science teacher, but after a student teaching stint in a middle school science class, I decided that the lab was probably a better fit for me, so I became a chemist.
Why do you think Dairyland is a great place to work?
Being in the Environmental group for my whole career here, I have always been impressed with our company’s commitment to environmental compliance. Dairyland leadership has always provided our group the best tools and access to training to do things the right way. I also appreciate Dairyland’s commitment to the communities where we live and serve.
What about life outside work? Tell us about your favorite things.
I have been a high school basketball official for 37 years. It's a great way to make it through the winters and a rewarding way to give back to a sport that I love. I also enjoy family time with my wife, two sons, and their wives. We love spending time on the river and taking family trips.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Favorite quote?
Make the best of today because tomorrow is never promised.
This helps me stay focused and grateful for all of the great things in my life that I try not to take for granted.
Where is your favorite local spot?
Swing Bridge Pub in La Crescent – Great food and close to home.
Where do you volunteer?
My wife works for a non-profit organization that looks for volunteers to help older people in the community stay in their homes by providing assistance with household chores along with other services. I have been mowing lawns for many years and also help out with other tasks when needed.
What do you want to be celebrating in 5 years?
I would love to be celebrating the Minnesota Vikings’ first Super Bowl championship.
