The Wisconsin Circuit Court has affirmed the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin’s (PSCW) 2019 decision to grant a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the Cardinal-Hickory Creek transmission line. (The line is currently under construction; pictured is a portion in Iowa.)

The Cardinal-Hickory Creek Transmission Line is vital to the future of our region’s renewable energy and clean energy economy. Construction of the project is well underway and is still anticipated to be completed by December 2023.

Studies indicate that the Cardinal-Hickory Creek Project is a multi-benefit project that would deliver benefits to local communities and the Midwest region by:

  • Improving electric system reliability locally and regionally
  • Delivering economic benefits for utilities and electric consumers
  • Expanding infrastructure to support public policy for greater use of renewables

Dairyland and its Cardinal-Hickory Creek project partners, ATC and ITC Midwest, issued this statement following the ruling. Additional background and chronology is included in the statement
