Dairyland Power Cooperative has donated a retired electrofishing boat and trailer to the Rusk County Wildlife Restoration Association (WRA) in Ladysmith, Wis.

Dairyland and the Rusk County WRA collaborate on environmental stewardship projects in the Ladysmith area near Dairyland’s Flambeau Hydroelectric Station, including the major fish habitat restoration of the Dairyland Reservoir (Lake Flambeau).

 “The WRA has borrowed our boat in the past to help conduct work on the fish habitat project in the Dairyland Reservoir. Dairyland has a new electrofishing boat, and we are pleased we are able to donate our former boat to the WRA for ongoing stewardship,” said Dairyland Environmental Biologist Ben Campbell.

 “The WRA has been instrumental in our stewardship successes in the Ladysmith area and we are grateful for their support,” added Campbell. “This boat has been retired from electrofishing and will now be used by WRA as a work boat to haul materials for fish habitat and shoreline rehabilitation projects.”

 Dairyland’s Flambeau Hydroelectric Station, a water-powered facility located on the Flambeau River five miles northeast of Ladysmith, has been generating electricity since 1951.
