Dairyland hosted the annual Transmission Hot Stick School this week at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, Wis. Lineworkers from Dairyland and across the Midwest have been safely practicing work using a hot stick.
“Regular training and skill building are critical for staying safe while working on transmission lines in the field,” said Dairyland Manager, Transmission Line Darin Bellile. “Lineworkers fine tune their hot stick skills with peers from other locations and organizations, which supports information sharing and team-building throughout our system.”
The hot stick technique is used when working on energized high voltage power lines using Live Line tools (hot sticks). The training helps to educate, keep up existing skillsets and practice critical safety measures.
