Dairyland Power Cooperative is cautioning area residents and the public about crossing railroad tracks to access fishing areas at its Alma Generating Site.
“Safety is Dairyland’s greatest concern,” said Alma Site Manager Brian Treadway. “We have become aware that individuals are crossing Dairyland property to gain access to the pond located within the rail loop. In doing so, some people have been crawling under and over trains that are periodically located on Dairyland property. This is an extremely unsafe practice, as the trains are routinely moved without warning during the unloading process.”
To help ensure public safety, Dairyland is asking those fishing on the Mississippi River and nearby backwaters to avoid crossing railroad tracks on Dairyland property. The safer access point to the rail loop pond area is through the two culverts located on the south end of the Alma Site.
“Fishing is a great and popular past-time in all seasons in this area,” said Treadway. “We are very concerned about the unsafe crossing and urge everyone to keep safety top-of-mind when enjoying recreation on the river.”
