Donations from Dairyland’s retired Genoa Station #3 (G-3) power plant (Genoa, Wis.) continue to benefit area communities.

This month, Dairyland donated office furnishings and infrastructure items to the La Crosse Area Habitat for Humanity. The donations are directed to Habitat's ReClaim Salvage Program for the ReStore, which sells new and used furniture, appliances, building supplies and home goods. Profits from the ReStore are used to provide assistance to area families in need.

Dairyland’s donation will raise approximately $19,000 for Habitat for Humanity's good works and will divert approximately 30,000 lbs. of material from the landfill. Funds distributed by Habitat help fulfill its mission of providing safe and affordable housing.

Earlier in the G-3 dismantlement process, Dairyland donated 21,285 lbs. of materials, raising $14,190 for the La Crosse Area Habitat for Humanity.

"As a cooperative, we are always looking for ways to benefit local communities and find sustainable ways to reuse materials," said President and CEO Brent Ridge. "Combined, the donations from Dairyland will yield nearly $35,000 in funds to help build and repair homes in the Coulee Region."

“The ReClaim Program provides a very important service for the community. Not only does it help our environment by diverting items from the landfill, but it also provides hope and help for families right here where we live and work,” said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Kahya Fox.

Dairyland’s Genoa Station #3 coal-fired 345 MW power plant was retired on June 1, 2021, following 52 years of providing safe, reliable power to the region.
