Employee Spotlight On
Abby Ocello
Supervisor, Meetings and Events

What is your job and what do you like most about it?
As the Supervisor of Meetings and Events, I enjoy the unique opportunity to bring people together and create meaningful experiences that align with our cooperative’s mission and vision. It truly is the team that I get to be a part of that makes each day great. The dynamic nature of my role ensures that no two days are ever the same, every meeting and event presents new challenges and opportunities to innovate. The opportunity to problem-solve and coordinate multiple tasks keeps me on my toes. It’s rewarding to know that the work we do strengthens connections among employees, members and stakeholders and drives progress.

What led you to work in this field?
I started my career in luxury hotels and large-scale event venues, which gave me the chance to travel and work in different locations across the country. When the pandemic hit, I learned the importance of a stable industry and job security. I was one of the lucky ones in that industry at the time, but every time I spoke to my dad, a lineman for 40 years, he would tell me, "You need to look at working for a cooperative," and Dairyland was always at the top of his list. He would send me job openings and encourage me to apply. When I decided to move back home and had gained a bit more perspective, I finally took his advice, and he was right!

Why do you think Dairyland is a great place to work?
Dairyland offers stability, great benefits, opportunities for growth and the chance to be part of something bigger, providing reliable, sustainable energy to the people who depend on us. It’s a place where you can build a career you’re proud of and work with people who truly care.

What about life outside work? Tell us about your favorite things.
My husband, our three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and our nine-month-old golden retriever enjoy being outside, anything from camping and hiking to gardening and relaxing by the fire. We are grateful to be part of an amazing church and community we get to call home. During special holidays, you may find me helping at the flower shop in town too!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Favorite quote?
"And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good." 2 Thessalonians 3:13

What motivates you?
My faith and family motivate me every day to work hard, stay grounded and strive to be the best version of myself.

What’s on your bucket list?
Shortly after I met my husband, we went on a trip to visit six National Parks. Since then, we have added a couple more to the list, but it is our goal to get to all of them. Having a little one has slowed us down a bit, but we are ready to start checking them off again.

What food would you not want to live without?
Pickles! They're a staple "side" at all of our meals. Our daughter already knows that pickles will be served with every meal, except breakfast. If you’re wondering which kind, the answer is all of them! We love every type of pickle and even use cucumbers from our garden to make refrigerator pickles when they’re in season.
