Employee Spotlight On
Josh Baures
Associate Engineer

What is your job and what do you like most about it?
I am currently an Associate Engineer in the Transmission Design Engineering department and have been a full-time employee with Dairyland Power Cooperative for 26 years. One of my favorite aspects of working in Transmission Design Engineering is being part of such an incredible team. I also enjoy collaborating with a wide variety of internal and external departments to help bring transmission line projects to life.

What led you to work in this field?
For the first 17 years of my career at Dairyland, I was a member of the Survey Crew. During that time, I had the opportunity to work closely with the Transmission Design Engineers and I was always fascinated by the work they did. Retirements within the department opened new opportunities and with additional education and training, I was able to apply for an open position. That career shift ultimately led me to where I am today as an Associate Engineer.

Why do you think Dairyland is a great place to work?
Dairyland Power has been an outstanding place to work. The organization offers excellent benefits, provides ample opportunities for additional training to support career advancement, and is home to an amazing team of employees. What I value most, however, is the Cooperative spirit, which is built on a foundation of honesty, social responsibility and a genuine care for others.

What about life outside work? Tell us about your favorite things.
I enjoy playing softball, hunting and fishing, but my greatest joy comes from spending time with my family. Watching my son play hockey and my daughter dance and play volleyball are truly the most rewarding gifts of all.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Favorite quote?
While training to become a member of the Transmission Design team, I once asked Gordon Zielke (Dairyland retiree) a question about grounding. His response was, “You can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip.” That simple yet profound advice has stuck with me over the years, and I’ve often found myself revisiting it during challenges in both my personal life and career.

What is the best thing that has happened to you this month?
My family recently enjoyed a week-long vacation in the Florida Keys. Snorkeling with my daughter and watching my son catch a 160-pound nurse shark were the highlights of an unforgettable trip.

What motivates you?
My family is my greatest source of motivation. Being a positive role model and building a strong foundation for my children to grow into respectful, responsible young adults is what inspires me every day.
