Dairyland Power Cooperative has paused generation at its Flambeau Hydroelectric Station due to extremely low water levels and river flows caused by ongoing drought conditions across northern Wisconsin.

Current flows on the Flambeau River are approximately 270 cubic feet per second (CFS), which is well below the approximately 400 CFS needed for safe generation. The station will remain offline until river flows improve and conditions allow for safe operation.

Dairyland continues to monitor water levels and coordinate with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Fishers and boaters are asked to use extra caution, go slow and watch for potential hazards.

The Flambeau Hydroelectric Station has a long history of serving the region. For 75 years, the facility, located on the Flambeau River five miles northeast of Ladysmith, has generated clean, reliable electricity. This water-powered facility can generate approximately 20 MW of electricity. Throughout the year, Dairyland welcomes area residents and visitors to enjoy the many recreational opportunities available on both the Reservoir and the public land surrounding it.
