Congratulations to Manager, Operations JPM Carl Dahl for earning the October People Powers award! Carl was nominated by Vice President, Generation Jeremy Browning; Director, Site Operations Generation Ches Wright; Manager, Alma Site Butch Miller; Supervisor, Maintenance JPM David Domine and Generation Site Support Manager Diana Baker for acting with a ‘Safety First’ mindset.

Across five nominations, Carl is recognized for his leadership, innovative problem-solving and efforts to create safer work environments at the John P. Madgett Generating Station (JPM) and throughout Dairyland’s generating assets. His ability to identify gaps and take initiative was noted as making a lasting impact on the team and the organization. For example, Carl developed a new Risk Assessment Process that “places safety at the forefront of every project and special job,” as noted by Diana. This process supports critical thinking, identifying potential risks and addressing hazards before starting work.

Carl’s commitment to improving the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program is another example of his leadership. Despite being short-staffed, Carl stepped up to support daily LOTO applications, provided hands-on training to plant operators and played a key role in updating the generation LOTO procedure. Butch described his efforts as displaying “gumption” by working additional hours and always ensuring that safety measures remained in place. Jeremy added that Carl “created visible and objective definitions of how excellence is to be measured,” inspiring his team to adopt higher safety standards and behaviors.

Thank you, Carl, for exemplifying the Safety First People Power to support our team and members!
