The MISO declared a Maximum Generation Emergency Event on Dec. 23, 2022, due to forced generation outages and higher than forecasted load.

The Dairyland system's all-time peak load record stands at 1,171 MW, achieved on June 29, 2018. Dairyland is a “summer peaking” utility. Air conditioner use results in significantly higher home and business energy usage in the summer. Periods of above-average heat and humidity drive up energy load on the Dairyland system.
