Dairyland Power Cooperative has donated $2,000 to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, which serves Dairyland’s Genoa (Wis.) property. The Genoa Site property includes a coal-fired generating station, shut-down nuclear facility and dry cask storage installation.

A check from Dairyland for $2,000 was recently presented to Vernon County Sheriff John Spears by Don Egge, Manager of the La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor and the Independent Fuel Storage facility; Marty Moe, Manager of Security (Securitas) for the Genoa Site; and Brian Rude, Vice President, External and Member Relations.

The donation to the sheriff’s department is not earmarked for a specific item or need; it will used by department personnel as they see fit for equipment or to support services benefitting area communities.

“In addition to their excellence in community protection and service, Dairyland is very appreciative of the time and effort the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department expends to support security at the Genoa facility. Through this donation, we hope to assist the Department by helping fund an item that supports their efforts to ensure safety in Vernon County,” said Rude.
