Through the La Crosse Public Education Foundation’s (LPEF) Adopt-a-School program, Dairyland is partnered with our “neighborhood” school, Hintgen Elementary. The Adopt-a-School program matches businesses and community organizations to specific schools in La Crosse.

As part of our support, Dairyland recently donated $1,000 to Hintgen to assist in alleviating food insecurity for students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, Dairyland donated $2,000 to Hintgen to fund their school-day snacks last fall and held a toiletry and household items donation drive in the winter.

The current online learning environment does not mean that school district food service programs for families has stopped. In fact, families may be in more dire need due to pandemic-related reduced employment and unemployment. Dairyland’s donation was earmarked specifically to provide that nutrition relief for members of our partner school’s families.

Hintgen Principal Amy Oliver sent the following thank-you note to Dairyland: “Thank you for your generous donation to our Hintgen families and greater community. Your kind donation was able to help feed our families during this unprecedented time and provided them with necessary essentials. Thank you for your generosity!”

Principal Oliver added that the donation directly supported their near-term “food drops” as well as the ability to purchase gift cards for families in need.
