Maintenance Mechanic

What is your job and what do you like most about it?
I’ve been a Maintenance Mechanic at the John P. Madgett (JPM) power plant for the last two years. My role involves maintaining all plant equipment at the JPM plant. Prior to this, I was in Operations at Alma 1-5 for 10 years and then transferred to JPM Operations for 9 years before switching to Maintenance. My favorite part of my job is learning new things and working with highly skilled mechanics on a daily basis. The power plant is always changing, from new equipment to changes in how we operate. I never get bored.

What makes Dairyland a great place to work?
I have always had great coworkers. When I was in Operations working a swing shift, I saw my coworkers more than I saw my own family. So having great people was awesome. The jobs I've had at Dairyland have always been very challenging. You are always learning and it keeps you on your toes.  Dairyland has given me jobs that are very satisfying and provide my family with a great life. Great pay and benefits since I started.

What led you to work in this field?
I came from Trane Co. in La Crosse. A co-worker of mine got a job at Alma 1-5, and when the next job opening came up in Operations, I applied and got the job in 2002.  Fast forward 20 years, I was looking for a change of pace when a Maintenance Mechanic-apprentice job came open. Two years later, I’m enjoying a whole new career at the plant. I still get to see all the guys in Operations but now instead of operating equipment, I get to troubleshoot and fix it. Will do anything to keep the lights on!

Life outside of work. Tell us about your favorite things.
I'm married to my very understanding wife, Angie, going on 20 years. I have two great kids; my daughter, Morgan, will be a sophomore at UWL this year and my son, Landon, will be a Junior at Mondovi High School. Other than spending time with my family, I enjoy fishing, golfing, mountain biking, camping and hunting. I love staying active!

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Always go into a new experience with a positive attitude and an open mind.
