Back-to-School 2020 just got better at the De Soto Middle and High School, thanks to six skilled employees from Dairyland's Genoa #3 power plant.

Four Mechanics (Nate Hoover, Kurt Krause, Tom Nickelatti, Dave Wucherer), one Electrician (John Clements) and one Instrument Technician (Brian Ziegler) spent eight hours at the school recently, helping prepare the building for a safe student return. Some of the building materials were donated by Dairyland.

The list of single-day accomplishments by the Dairyland volunteers is long. In accordance with pandemic guidelines, the team built and installed Plexiglass barriers, removed furniture to increase space for social distancing and secured water fountains. They also installed LED smart TVs and whiteboards in classrooms to help facilitate coursework.

“The school really appreciated having highly skilled, community-minded volunteers helping them get ready for a very different school reopening,” said Dairyland Foreperson-Mechanical Chad Kurszewski. “Everyone’s focus was on making the building as safe as possible for students and teachers.”
